Toric contact lenses are made specifically for consumers with a condition known as astigmatism. Astigmatism typically occurs when the cornea is un-evenly shaped or there is a defect in the eye’s crystalline lens. To correct this, toric contact lenses are specially shaped to enable them to fit correctly against the eye’s surface. Also, since toric contacts have two different powers within the lens, some brands of toric contact lenses weight the bottom part of the lens to prevent rotation on the eye.
